Abstract Functional integration and lightweight design are important tasks especially for modern electric vehicles. Development of multi-functional assemblies the battery box future is one challenges in field mobility. The housing must perform many tasks: structural stiffening sealing (waterproofness) as well crash protection thermal management batteries. In this paper results from a new developed assembly SMC-aluminum tray will be presented discussed. outer shell manufactured by forming SMC directly on an aluminum sandwich component stroke compression molding. Furthermore, passive temperature control functions integrated into core realized with switchable air-cooling phase-change-material foam. Additionally, sensors health monitoring, humidity integrated. Finally process manufacturing tests explained.

The battery delivered a discharge capacity of 305 mAh g(-1) in the first cycle and 273 mAh g(-1) after 20 cycles, with very stable electrochemical behaviour.
